Please don't ruin this movie for me by putting a religious spin on it.
Evil destroys good but good is righteous and indestructible and will survive all attempts of annihilation and the righteous will see it. Good lives in all and we cheer for for his victory over evil
I cannot count how many times I have seen this movie. I watched it last night again and got a whole new meaning.
I interpret it to be symbolic with the life of Jesus. John Coffy who is a simple, good person, is tragically accused of wrongdoing and has healing powers, reflecting Jesus. The men on the Green Mile, become his handful of believers, the diciples. Billy who betrayed John by not disclosing his crime, causing great suffering to John, equals Judas, and Percy, who taunts all, uses has worldly power influence to have his way, a cruel person and evil man, ends up in the mental institution, like Satan ending up in the abyss in Revelations before he is completely destroyed. I also find it interesting that the writer chose the name John for Coffy as John was inspired through Jehovah God to write the book of Revelations in the Bible!
