Movie: Fountain, The

Interpretation:
well; where do you start with this one?

After watching it recently, I came to the conclusion that this film is, ultimately, about not fearing death as it is said: "death is the road to awe".
in the past, we see the conquistador searching for eternal life by means of the "tree of life". Yet this fails - as we see, at the end, he drinks the sap and is killed by the flowers which sprout out of his body.

In the present day, the man tries desperately to develop a drug to stop cancer so he can save his dying wife. However, she dies before he discovers the cure.
And in the future, the same man has developed a way of postponing his death claiming: "death is a disease - and there is a cure". He eats the bark off a tree which he planted over his wife's grave and this prevents him dying. In an orb-like-spaceship, he and his wife (who is the tree), travel towards a dying star (xubulba), believing that the star will give them both renewed and fruitful lives.

However, when they get closer; the tree wilts and dies. The man is mortified but is then visited by the ghost of his wife. She tells him to "finish it" referencing to the book she was writing before her death. The man realising that death is inevitable says "i'm going to die". And with this renewed perception he completes the book - correcting his mistakes and finally understanding that dying is a natural part of life - and he disintegrates into the star as the tree of his wife blooms.
