Twilight presents a theme of teenage angst and abstinence. Edward is vampire who was transformed when a teenageboy, therefore while being old he still maintains the look of a teenager. The problems of teenagers are made into metaphors involving vampires. Still being somewhat of a teenageboy, Edward does not choose to bite anyone, until the end of the movie where Bella is dying and he bites her to prevent her from dying. The biting can be seen as a metaphor for sex, and the message being that you should not have sex unless it's with someone you truly love
