  Director M. Night Shamyalan's overall theme for The Happening was about the environmental conflicts going on in the world. With global warming and pollution, the earth is in danger of deteriorating and dying. Shamyalan's vision (even though this movie was TERRIBLE) shows a plausible situation in which the plants and vegetation on the planet fighting back against the human race, because of all the damage that they caused to the earth. The hidden message is that we as a human race so work together to help save the earth.
