  This whole movie showed the South's point of view during the Civil War. In the beginning of the movie, it shows the south as a happy carefree society. Even the slaves are happy. It illustrates how things like parties, matchmaking, and other trivial parts of life were so important. Then of course the war starts and the boys are excited and think that they'll win and be back home for Christmas. Of course we know that the Civil War was 4 years long and the South loses. And four main characters who lived in a fantastical society watched it deteriate before their eyes until it was gone with the wind. It's rather dark, and sad most of the time. However Vivian Leigh does a phenomenal job playing the part of Scarlett and brings a lot of comic relief to the movie. Scarlett is the main character and is a spoiled Southern brat. She is the most beautiful girl in the South and some of the things she does to survive during and after the war can be cut throat. She tends to do whats best for herself, however, there are several times she shows that she does have a good heart. One of my favorite lines from the movie from her is, "Fiddle-dee-dee. War, war, war; this war talk's spoiling all the fun at every party this spring. I get so bored I could scream. Besides... there isn't going to be any war."

  Being an African American the movie has parts that were extremely offensive to me. With that said I can still enjoy this movie because it showed how a way of life that was based on exploitation of others could not last. I must admit I liked Scarlett's determination to survive which I think was to be an allegory for the south.
